                    What is Holistic Nutritional Counseling?
                    A holistic approach to health and nutrition means that we look at how all areas of a person’s life are connected.  Food is much more than just calories, vitamins, and minerals.  Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising?  We must look at how all parts of a person’s life affect the whole in order to find true balance.

                    No one diet works for everyone
                    The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has their own nutritional needs. If there was one diet that was perfect for everyone, we’d all be doing it and feeling fantastic!  We are all unique individuals with a different genetic make-up and different requirements.  One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets don’t work in the long run.  The food that makes one person feel energized and focused might make someone else feel sluggish and deprived.  We look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your dietary needs.

                    Back to the Basics: Natural Foods
                    It is important to take a balanced approach to nutrition: more high-quality, organic vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, lean proteins and water; less inflammatory foods, such as artificial/processed foods and sugar.  Food Matters; we are what we eat.  It’s not just about losing weight and looking good, it’s also about being healthy enough to do the things we love both today and 20+ years from now.    

                    Not Just What We Eat, but When, Where, Why, and How
                    Believe it or not, the same meal consumed in two different settings, times of day, situations, and speeds does not culminate in the same physical end result in terms of how it is digested, absorbed, and stored.  Reviewing the answers to these questions and making subtle changes can have a powerful impact on metabolism.  

                    Everything is food
                    In addition to what we put on our plate, there are a variety of lifestyle factors that create optimal health; healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and for some, a spiritual practice.  These are all essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.
